Breaux and Lott to Join Crossroads Strategies;
Expansion Solidifies CRS as Leader in Sector

WASHINGTON – Crossroads Strategies, LLC (CRS) announced today that former Senators John Breaux and Trent Lott joined the Washington, DC government affairs firm. Former Senate Majority Leader Lott represented Mississippi in Congress for more than 30 years before starting a consulting practice with his partner, former Senator John Breaux who represented the state of Louisiana for over three decades. “Crossroads is one of a handful of elite government affairs firms in the nation’s capital and this addition solidifies our leadership in the space,” said Stewart Hall, Chairman of Crossroads Strategies. “Senators Lott and Breaux joining our firm ensures our clients best-of-class counsel across multiple disciplines of regulatory and legislative public policy.” “I look forward to taking my experience to CRS and working with a great new team of professionals and my good friend Trent Lott. New challenges are what the future is all about,” added Senator Breaux. “Crossroads Strategies is a very dynamic and unique public policy firm and we are excited to bring our expertise to their clients. In addition, of course, it is my pleasure to continue working with my long-time friend and partner, John Breaux,” said Senator Lott.

About Senator Lott: Senator Lott represented the people of Mississippi in Congress for 35 years and is one of a handful of officials to have held elected leadership positions in both the House of Representatives and Senate. During his 16 years in the House and 19 years in the Senate, he worked closely with seven presidential administrations and was regarded as a savvy coalition builder and dealmaker. Senator Lott joined the House in 1973, representing Mississippi’s Fifth Congressional District. From 1981 to 1989, he served as House Minority Whip, the second-ranking Republican in the House. In 1995, Senator Lott was elected Senate Republican Whip, giving him the distinction of being the only person to hold that position in both the House and Senate.  He served as both Senate Majority and Minority Leader from 1996 to 2003.

About Senator Breaux: Senator Breaux led a long and distinguished career in the US Congress. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1972 at the age of 28 – at the time of his election, he was the youngest member of Congress. He represented the 7th District of Louisiana for 14 years before being elected to the United States Senate in 1986.  Senator Breaux was a widely recognized bipartisan leader in the Senate, and in 1993, was appointed by his Democratic colleagues to the post of Chief Deputy Whip, a position he held until his retirement. He also held a number of key Senate committee positions. A senior member of the Finance Committee, Senator Breaux served as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Social Security and Family Policy. He also held positions on two other Finance subcommittees, the Subcommittee on Health Care and the Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight. Senator Breaux also served on the Senate Commerce, Science and Technology Committee, where he was a leader on telecommunications and transportation issues, along with his work on fisheries and ocean policy.

About CRS: Founded in 2010, Crossroads Strategies is a leading bipartisan, multidisciplinary consulting and advocacy firm specializing in federal government relations.  The addition of Senators Breaux and Lott along with Chet Lott and John Breaux Junior will create a roster of 21 advocates servicing over 100 clients across all major practice areas.

IBM Hires Lobbyists to Help Win Pentagon JEDI Cloud Business

By Chris Cornillie and Jorge Uquillas | April 3, 2018 4:14PM ET

IBM and rival technology companies vying for the Pentagon’s Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure, or JEDI, cloud contract are intensifying lobbying efforts as the federal government prepares to open bidding for one the largest-ever programs of its kind.

International Business Machines Corp. retained Washington lobbying firm Crossroads Strategies LLC to make its case regarding the Pentagon’s “cloud computing strategy and programs,” according to a lobbying registration disclosure. It’s one of about a dozen companies competing for the cloud deal, which could be worth as much as $10 billion over 10 years.

Pentagon officials announced last month that JEDI would be a single-award contract, seemingly tilting the contest in favor of cloud computing giants such as Amazon Web Services LLC and Microsoft Corp.

Crossroads lobbyists listed in the registration include two with ties to legislators representing the state of Washington, where Amazon is headquartered. Shay Hancock was a military legislative assistant to Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.). Smith is ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee. Another lobbyist, Marc Numedahl, was the military legislative assistant to Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Wash.), also a member of the Armed Services Committee.

Representatives from IBM and Crossroads declined to comment.

IBM isn’t the only JEDI competitor using the force of K Street. CSRA Inc., which built the Defense Department’s milCloud solution, spent $150,000 in the fourth quarter of 2017 on defense and IT issues including the Pentagon’s move to the cloud, according to data compiled by Bloomberg Government.

Google, Microsoft Turn to Congress for Cyberattack Relief

By Jim Myers, Bloomberg Government

“A rash of cyberattacks is driving U.S. companies including technology giants Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. to seek legislative relief from Congress. ‘There is a clear need to improve the flow of information between the private and public sectors, while being mindful of appropriate liability protections,’ said Anne Brady Perron, executive vice president of Crossroads Strategies, a lobbying firm that represents companies with an interest in the legislation. ‘As it stands now, our laws don’t do enough to foster the flow of information sharing, and this bill would encourage a public/private partnership to address and protect American consumers,’ Perron said.”
